A couple more items from the video

1. The other cell phone video, from a bit further right, corroborates the movement of Grant’s left arm. It isn’t as clear, because officer Pirone is more in the way, but a couple of the frames do show the movement of Grant’s arm. Here is the frame just before officer Mehserle’s gun goes off:

125;24 on KTVU’s raw cell phone video from further right (available here: http://www.crescentofbetrayal.com/Grant%20video%201,%20raw%20footage,%20no%20audio.wmv).

In the above frame, Grant is starting to roll up on his right side so he can swing his left arm up. The next frame is the fatal instant. Grant is further up on his right side, and his left arm is visible swinging up above his body:

125;27. In the previous frame the space between Pirone’s elbow and knee was blank wall. Now something has come up between. From the other video we know that this is Grant’s arm.

In the next frame (126;01), the light brown color of Grant’s hand can be seen starting to come out past Pirone’s arm (just above Pirone’s wrist):

Then Pirone pulls back and Grant’s arm can be seen in front of Johannes’ leg:

126;04. Grant is rolling back towards being flat on his stomach. The white patch is Grant’s tee shirt hanging out. Just above it, in front of Johannes’ shin, is the light brown color of Grant’s hand. His wrist appears dark for some reason. Was he wearing a watch? Then there is more light brown flesh color in front of Johannes’ calf.

From there Oscar Grant’s left arm settles fully onto his back. Here is four frames later (126;19):

Grant flat on his stomach. His arms are now fully up onto his back, covering up his white tee shirt. It does look like there is a watchband on his left wrist.

Not as clear as the other video, but fully collaborative.

2.   Another thing that may have escaped notice is the way Johannes’ yanks his left hand away when his gun goes off, which I think pretty much proves he thought he was firing his Taser. He did not yet have his left hand on the gun when he fired, so that the recoil hit his left hand, causing him to yank the hand up to his shoulder. If he thought he was firing his gun, no way would he have fired when he was in the act of bringing his left hand into a support position, but before his left hand was there, because he would know that his left hand would get whacked if he did that, exactly as happened. The fact that the recoil DID bang his hand certainly convinces me that Johannes thought he was firing his Taser. This can be seen in the animation from further left, the same one that shows Grant swinging his own arm up onto his own back:

Note that Johannes’ left hand has not yet reached his gun when the gun goes off. Johannes jerking of his left hand upward, away from the gun’s recoil, clearly indicates that the recoil caught him by surprise. (Did officer Mehserle get a bruise on his hand from the impact? It looks pretty clear from the video that there was an actual collision.)

3.   This discussion of Johannes' left hand was in my post from six weeks ago. That same post also showed video proof that Johannes DID briefly get control of Grant’s other hand (his right hand), which control was then dropped and briefly picked up by Tony Pirone. Neither officer seemed to remember this, which isn’t surprising, since each only got very brief control, but their lawyers will want to make sure they don’t get tripped up on this point by claiming that Johannes never got control of either of Grant’s hands, only to be confronted with video proof to the contrary. That original post is here:

I’m doing what I can to put this information before the public, but it looks like the traditional media is not going to cover it unless it is put forward by a “newsmaker.” That might be Mehserle's lawyers, or the police officers association. I'll be glad to assist however I can.
